Bernadette Smith is a practising artist, media producer and art educator who has lived and worked for many years overseas. She has a Master of Fine Arts from San Francisco Art Institute, USA and is a graduate of the College of Fine Arts in Paddington. Her art practice includes painting, photography, film and cultural critique. She has an extensive international exhibition record with work included in collections in Germany, France, Britain, Australia and the USA. She has had a solo exhibition in Berlin and in Singapore her work was exhibited at Art Forum Gallery and the Australian High Commission. She has been selected for the Mosman Art Prize and the Florence Biennale. Now based in Sydney, her studio at Suite 10, 20-26 Maddox Street in Alexandria can be visited by appointment
My paintings investigate the materiality of paint and the viscous fusions that can occur through oil painting. My current works are influenced by the concept of solastalgia and the distress caused by unwanted environmental change.
